With the criticism that the offensive line has drawn, it’s easy to point the finger at the unit for the time Tom Brady got drilled and coughed up the football tonight. To an extent, that’s fair, as right tackle Marcus Cannon lost his block, and Michael Bennett steamrolled Brady to force the ball out.
But Brady deserves the blame for holding the ball too long, and he admitted as much tonight.
“Just hold onto the ball too long,” Brady said. “Brandon (Lloyd) was starting to work away from the coverage. They just got me as I was throwing the ball. I’ve got to try to eliminate those, try to eliminate turnovers. They certainly kill us. They weren’t very good plays.”
Brady was intercepted on the next play, when he tried to force a ball to Rob Gronkowski. The pass was tipped by cornerback Ronde Barber and picked off by Mark Barron, who took it back for a touchdown. Brady discussed the need for everyone to get better across the board, himself included.
“The point is we have to do things a lot better,” Brady said. “It’s every position. It’s every player. We all have to do a better job at our job.”
