Tom Brady sharper as Patriots, Saints conclude final joint practice at Gillette

The Patriots and Saints wrapped up their joint practices today with a light workout at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots were in shorts and shells for the fourth time in 12 practices.

Here are more details from the morning session.

Didn’t participate: cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, fullback Spencer Larsen, right guard Brian Waters, linebacker Brandon Spikes, linebacker Tracy White, tackle Markus Zusevics, tackle Matt Kopa, tackle Kyle Hix, left guard Logan Mankins, offensive lineman Dustin Waldron, right tackle Sebastian Vollmer, tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, tight end Daniel Fells, tight end Jake Ballard, defensive lineman Myron Pryor, defensive lineman Gerard Warren, defensive lineman Ron Brace, defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene.

Returned: tackle Darrion Weems.

Tom Brady was much better, but to be fair, it was a different tempo without live contact. Brady was 9 of 9 with four touchdowns in 7-on-7s, and he was 10 of 12 with one touchdown in 11-on-11s.

Brady’s throwing coach, Tom House, was present for the third straight day.

The starting offensive line, from left to right, was Nate Solder, Donald Thomas, Dan Koppen, Dan Connolly and Marcus Cannon.

Nick McDonald got more sub work at tackle. He also had to run a lap for a false start.

Kyle Hill was present after getting signed this morning but he couldn’t fully participate due to CBA rules about newly-signed players.

The Pats and Saints practiced situational work in the kicking game, including onside kicks, free kicks and lateral drills.

Gerard Warren missed his first practice of camp.

Drew Brees hit Jimmy Graham for a long touchdown in 11-on-11s, and Graham unloaded a Gronk spike in celebration. Dont’a Hightower had good coverage, but Graham’s height advantage was too much.

Next up: The Patriots and Saints play their preseason game tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The Patriots are off Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s schedule has not been announced yet.
