Tom Brady managed to find a way to back Wes Welker while also staying neutral about the contentious contract negotiations.
While speaking to WEEI’s Dennis & Callahan on Wednesday, Brady said he wants to play with Welker in New England for the remainder of his career, and he supports him as a friend. But at the same time, Brady did his part to steer clear of any controversial comments.
“I wish it was an easy answer,” Brady said. “I always support Wes, but none of those decisions are up to me, and these things end up working themselves out at some point. I don’t know how or when or who or why. Sometimes I get emotionally involved in those situations, and it doesn’t work out well for me. I just try to support him as a friend. We’re all in this business, and it’s a tough business. You always hope for the best. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I love Wes. I’d love to have him here for as long as I’m playing, but none of those things are really up to me.”
